Alambrista! (1977)

Alambrista! é o primeiro longa do diretor Robert M. Young (o nome do meio com M, para diferenciar do famoso ator Robert Young). Seu filme mostra a decisão de um homem, Roberto (Domingo Ambriz),  de se mudar para os Estados Unidos da América e deixar tudo que ele tem para atrás e começar uma nova vida em busca do sonho americano. Sua mãe o relembra que o pai de Roberto foi para essa aventura e nunca mais voltou.

Nessa nova terra, ele aprende que o sonho americano não é fácil de se conseguir e talvez uma impossibilidade para alguns e ele é forçado a tomar decisões difíceis.

Alambrista quer dizer Equilibrista.

O diretor Robert M. Young ganhou um prêmio em Cannes pelo filme.

Death Line ( O Metrô da Morte), 1972

Em Londres, o universitário Alex Campbell (David Ladd) e sua namorada britânica, Patricia Wilson (Sharon Gurney) encontram um homem desmaiado nas escadarias do metrô em Russell Square. Patricia acha que ele possa ser um diabético e, com a confirmação de que ele não é, ela insiste que Alex procure um segurança para ajudar o homem, mas, quando eles chegam, o homem sumiu.

Quando o sarcástico inspetor Calhoun (Donald Pleasence) fica sabendo que o homem desaparecido é um membro do Império Britânico, ele pede que o investigador Rogers (Norman Rossington) traga o casal para a delegacia para confirmar que o homem estava vivo. Enquanto isso, o agente do MI5 (equivalente à CIA) Stratton-Villiers (Christopher Lee) assume o caso e pede a saída de Calhoun. Contudo, ocorrem outros casos de pessoas desaparecidas na estação e Calhoun faz a investigação. O que os oficiais não sabem é que há um sobrevivente canibal de uma desabamento do túnel do metrô em 1892, vivendo no subterrâneo, que está sequestrando os passageiros para se alimentar e fazer companhia para ele.

Sharon Gurney usa cabelo igual Jane Fonda usou no filme 'Klute" de 1971.

Christopher Lee concordou em fazer o filme, porque ele queria trabalhar com Donald Pleasence.

In London, the American college student Alex Campbell (David Ladd) and his British girlfriend Patricia Wilson (Sharon Gurney) stumble upon a fainted man in the tube stairway in Russell Square. Patricia forces Alex to look for a guard to help the man but when they arrive, the man is gone. When the sarcastic Inspector Calhoun (Donald Pleasence) learns that the missing man is an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, he asks Detective Sergeant Rogers (Norman Rossington) to bring the couple to the precinct to confirm that the man was alive. Meanwhile MI5 agent Stratton-Villiers (Christopher Lee) assumes the case and orders Calhoun to leave. However, there are other cases of missing persons in that station and Calhoun proceeds the investigation. What the officers do not know is that there is a cannibal survivor from a collapse in the tunnel in 1892 living in the underground that is kidnapping passengers to feed and to have companionship.

Gallipoli (Peter Weir), 1981

Gallipoli está na forma italiana do nome grego Kallipolis, que significa ‘cidade bonita’, que hoje tem o nome de Gelibolu, pertencendo à Turkiye (novo nome da Turquia).

Durante a 1ª Guerra Mundial, franceses, britânicos e forças aliadas (Austrália, Nova Zelândia e outros da comunidade britânica) lutaram na campanha na península de Gallipoli (1915-1916), buscando assegurar uma rota marítima para dar alívio à aliada Rússia. Os otomanos construíram fortificações defensivas ao longo da península e contiveram as forças invasoras.

Gallipoli é um filme australiano dirigido por Peter Weir. Começa em 1915 no oeste da Austrália. Archy Hamilton (Mark Lee) tem 18 anos e é o melhor corredor da região. Os britânicos acabara de invadir Gallipoli e Archy quer se alistar. Seu tio Jack é quem o treina e o aconselha a continuar correndo. A idade mínima é 21 anos.

Frank Dunne (Mel Gibson) vivem sem muito dinheiro. Ele é cínico a respeito da guerra e não quer se alistar, mesmo que seus amigos o estejam fazendo.

Ele perde dinheiro em aposta contra Archy e fica sem nada. Frank ajuda Archy a ir até a cidade de Perth para se alistar. A pressão geral acaba convencendo Frank a se juntar à cavalaria. Mas ele é péssimo cavaleiro e forçado a ir para a infantaria. Os dois acabam lutando juntos contra as fortificações dos turcos.

Trivia: O roteirista David Williamson fez adaptação do livro de Bill Gammage, “The Broken Years”, que é uma coleção de textos dos diários e cartas de cerca de mil soldados, que lutaram em Gallipoli.

O diretor Peter Weir se inspirou em fazer o filme, depois que visitou um campo de batalha da 1ª Guerra. Originalmente, ele e o roteirista pretendiam cobrir a campanha em Gallipoli de todos os lados, mas optou por focar em um pequeno grupo de personagens, que poderia ser capaz de caracterizar toda a tragédia.

Os produtores anunciaram que queriam 400 cavaleiros experientes para o filme, mas só 200 apareceram para a filmagem. Os outros 200 cavaleiros no filme foram feitos por mulheres, vestidas como homens.

Um dos produtores foi o magnata da mídia, Rupert Murdoch. Seu pai, Keith, tinha sido um jornalista na Primeira Guerra. Ele visitara Gallipoli em 1915 e se tornou um grande crítico de como os militares de alta patente conduziram a batalha.

During World War I (1914-1918), French, British and allied forces (Australian, New Zealand, Newfoundland, Irish and Indian) fought the Gallipoli campaign (1915-1916) in and near the peninsula, seeking to secure a sea route to relieve their eastern ally, Russia. The Ottomans set up defensive fortifications along the peninsula and contained the invading forces.

Gallipoli is an Australian film is directed by Peter Weir.

It's May 1915 Western Australia. Archy Hamilton (Mark Lee) is 18 and the best sprinter of the land. The British has just invaded Gallipoli and Archy is desperate to join. His uncle Jack trains him and counsels him to continue racing. The age limit for service is 21. Frank Dunne (Mel Gibson) is scrapping by. He is cynical of the war and doesn't join even though his mates are all going. He loses money in a race against Archy and has nothing left. Frank leads Archy to Perth to help him sign up. General pressure convinces Frank to join Archy in the Light Horse. However he's a terrible rider and is forced into the infantry. They both end up in Gallipoli fighting the entrenched Turkish army.

Trivia: 

David Williamson adapted his screenplay from Bill Gammage's book "The Broken Years", which is a collection of diary excerpts and letters from around one thousand soldiers, who all fought at Gallipoli.

Director Peter Weir was inspired to make the film after visiting a World War I battle site. Originally, he and screenwriter David Williamson planned to encompass the entire Gallipoli campaign from all sides, but instead opted to focus on one small group of characters who would be able to humanize the whole tragedy.

Producers advertised for 400 skilled male horse riders for the movie, but only 200 turned up for shooting. The other 200 horse riders in the movie were women dressed to look like men.

One of the producers was media mogul Rupert Murdoch. His father, Keith, had been a journalist in World War I. He visited Gallipoli briefly in September 1915, and became an influential agitator against how the British top brass had conducted themselves during the battle.

Paris nous appartient (Jacques Rivette), 1961

Filme do celebrado diretor Jacques Rivette. Foi seu primeiro longa como diretor depois ser crítico de cinema. Iniciou em 1957 e completou apenas 3 anos depois, quando estreou nos cinemas em 1961. O motivo do atraso foi falta de fundos e encontrar um distribuidor para o filme.

Anne Goupil é uma estudante de Literatura em Paris em 1957. Seu irmão mais velho, Pierre, a leva para uma festa de um amigo, onde dentre os convidados estão Philip Kaufman, um expatriado americano, escapando do McCartismo e Gerard Lenz, um diretor de teatro, que chega com uma mulher misteriosa, Terry. A conversa da festa é sobre um suposto suicídio de um amigo, Juan, um ativista espanhol que rompeu recentemente com Terry. Philip avisa Anne que as forças que mataram Juan logo vão fazer o mesmo com Gerard. Gerard está tentando ensaiar a obra Péricles de Shakespeare, embora ele não tenha apoio financeiro. Anne fica com um papel na peça para ajudar Gerard e tenta descobrir por que Juan morreu.

Muitas pessoas dizem que o filme é a la de David Lynch. Ou será que foi David Lynch quem copiou Jacques Rivette, já que ele começou primeiro?

Begun in 1957 and completed three years later, it was then-critic Jacques Rivette's first full-length film as a director and one of the first works of the French New Wave, though it was not released theatrically until 1961. Oddly, it seems to be one of the lesser-known today, despite being a fascinatingly odd mystery.

Anne Goupil is a literature student in Paris in 1957. Her elder brother, Pierre, takes her to a friend's party where the guests include Philip Kaufman, an expatriate American escaping McCarthyism, and Gerard Lenz, a theatre director who arrives with the mysterious woman Terry. The talk at the party is about the apparent suicide of their friend Juan, a Spanish activist who had recently broken up with Terry. Philip warns Anne that the forces that killed Juan will soon do the same to Gerard. Gerard is trying to rehearse Shakespeare's "Pericles", although he has no financial backing. Anne takes a part in the play to help Gerard, and to try to discover why Juan died.

Apparently many people say this film is "like a David Lynch movie". That similarity is there, so I appreciate that... but then the question becomes, does that mean that David Lynch films are "like a Jacques Rivette movie" since Rivette came first by quite a few years?

My Cousin Rachel (1952)

Richard Burton vive Philip Ashley. Quando seu primo Ambrose (que mora agora na Itália, por causa de saúde) escreve para ele e diz que sua esposa está o matando lentamente, ele acredita piamente.. mesmo que seja possível que Ambrose não esteja bem da cabeça. Afinal, seu pai morrei de câncer no cérebro.. talvez isto esteja fazendo que Ambrose escreva as estranhas cartas. Mesmo assim, Philip fica predisposto a odiar a esposa de Ambrose, Rachel (Olivia de Havilland). Philip corre para a Itália para visitar seu primo, mas o homem está morto e enterrado quando ele chega. Sua viúva não está lá e Philip imediatamente volta para sua propriedade.

De repente, Rachel aparece na residência de Philip logo após isso. Pela beleza dela, Philip começa a gostar dela e presume que as cartas do seu primo eram de um louco. Enquanto isso possa ser verdade, a mudança de Philip faz dele um jovem muito imaturo. Se apaixona por ela e quer se casar com ela.

Filme baseado em obra da escritora Daphne Du Marier e adaptado pelo competente Nunnally Johnson. e dirigido por Henry Koster.

Filme indicado a 4 Oscars, sendo uma das indicações para Richard Burton como Melhor Ator Coadjuvante, embora ele apareça na maior parte das cenas. Richard Burton não ganhou o Oscar, mas ganhou o Globo de Ouro.

O filme é , de várias maneiras, parecido com o filme  "Suspeita", de 1941,com a atriz Joan Fontaine e irmã de Olivia.

Philip Ashley (Richard Burton) is a brash young man in this Gothic tale. When Cousin Ambrose writes to him that his wife is slowly killing him, he accepts it without question...even though it's very possible Ambrose was not in his right mind. After all, his father died of a brain tumor...perhaps this is causing Ambrose to compose these weird letters. Regardless, Philip is pre-disposed to hate Ambrose's wife, Rachel (Olivia de Havilland). Philip rushes to Italy to see his cousin but the man was dead and buried by the time he arrived. His widow was not there and Philip immediately leaves to return to his estate.

Out of the blue, Rachel arrives at Philip's estate soon after this. Inexplicably, he almost immediately likes her and just assumes the letters were the ramblings of a madman. While this could be true, Philip's change of heart betray him as a very immature sort of young man. 

When Ben Mankiewiecz introduced this film, he indicated that many thought Richard Burton was miscast as Philip because he was too old...though he was only 26. He just happened to look older and the part called for a young many about to turn 25. Burton's performance earned him an Oscar nomination--oddly, for Best Supporting Actor even though he was in every scene and clearly was the star. 

This movie is in many ways very reminiscent of the earlier film "Suspicion" which, interestingly, starred de Havilland's sister (Joan Fontaine). It keeps you guessing as to Rachel and her innocence...as well as Philip's sanity.

Elizabeth I , Minissérie - Episódio 2 - (2005)

Segundo episódio da minissérie sobre Elizabeth (Isabel) I, com Helen Mirren, Jeremy Irons e Hugh Dancy.

Agora ela está na meia idade e não há mais a preocupação sobre a Rainha Elizabeth ter um herdeiro e o foco agora muda para quem irá assumir o trono, depois que ela morrer. A Rainha começa a ter um interesse pelo jovem e atraente Conde de Essex e fica enciumada quando vê que uma outra dama tem interesse por ele. Essex ganha muita influência com a Rainha e até chega a ganhar um assento no Conselho. Ela o perdoa quando ele passa do limite e aprisiona o médico particular dela como traidor. Mas, fica furiosa quando ele engravida uma dama da corte. Quando ele lidera uma rebelião não contra sua Rainha, mas contra seus conselheiros, ele vai longe demais e tem sua cabeça no tronco do machado. Os conselheiros dela, enquanto isso, fazem planos  para ter Rei James VI da Escócia para sucedê-la, o que veio realmente a ocorrer. A ironia é que James era filho de Mary Stuart, que foi decapitada no reinado de Elizabeth.

Now well into middle age, there is no longer any concern about Queen Elizabeth producing an heir and the focus now shifts to deciding who will ascend to the throne when she dies. The Queen has taken a keen interest in the young and handsome Earl of Essex and is a bit jealous when it becomes apparent that one of her ladies-in-waiting also has an interest in him. Essex gains a great deal of influence with the Queen, eventually obtaining a seat on he Council. She forgives him when he oversteps the mark and has her personal physician arrested as a traitor. She is livid however when she learns that he has impregnated one of her ladies-in-waiting. When he leads a rebellion, not against the Queen but against her advisers, he goes too far and his head is put on the chopping block. Her advisers meanwhile make plans to have King James VI of Scotland succeed her.

Jude (Paixão Proibida), de Michael Winterbottom (1996)

Final do século 19 na Inglaterra, Jude Fawley (Christopher Eccleston) , um pedreiro inocente com as coisas do mundo, quer sair da pobreza rural para ir à universidade. Sua esposa Arabella (Rachel Griffiths) o deixa e ele parte para Christminster, onde ele conhece e se apaixona por Sue (Kate Winslet), sua bela e inteligente prima. Embora os dois percebam que seus destinos estão entrelaçados, quando ele revela sobre seu casamento anterior, ela fica muito magoada e num ato perverso de retaliação, casa-se com outro homem. 

Sem dinheiro e com sua entrada negada para a universidade, ele volta para sua cidade natal. Algum tempo depois, no funeral da tia em comum, Sue revela a Jude que ela está muito infeliz. Logo um romance ilícito começa entre eles, até que o marido de Sue aceita que Jude e Sue fiquem juntos abertamente. Os dois têm filhos e vivem juntos como não casados. Eles passam por problemas sociais e financeiros, mas vivem felizes, até que...

Love is Colder than Death (O Amor é mais Frio que a Morte), de Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1969)

Filme de estreia do diretor alemão Rainer Werner Fassbinder, que costuma roteirizar e dirigir seus próprios filmes. Seu último filme foi Querelle, de 1982, é uma dos suas melhores obras. Seus filmes geralmente tem um lado sinistro, com violência. Infelizmente, ele morreu jovem, aos 37 anos, de overdose.

Mostra a Alemanha Ocidental, durante a guerra fria, alguns anos depois que o muro foi construído. O personagem Franz (feito pelo próprio Fassbinder) quer rodar seu próprio negócio, mas alguns chefões mafiosos entraram na cidade e querem tomar o seu território. Eles enviam Bruno (Ulli Lommel) para ficar de olhos nas coisas. Assim, Bruno, Franz e sua namorada fazem amizade. Um dos chefões é Raoul (Howard Gaines) sempre sem camisa, por alguma razão. Tudo é muito surreal.. com poucas falas, longas pausas, movimentos lentos. Não há muita conexão entre as várias cenas. 

Elenco: Ulli Lommel, Hanna Schygulla e Rainer Fassbinder. Ulli guarda, certas cenas, uma semelhança com o ator Alain Delon. E Schygulla era a musa de Fassbinder.

West Germany, during the cold war, a few years after the wall had been installed. Small time guy Franz ( played by 24 year old Fassbinder, uncredited ) wants to run his own operation, but the big guys have moved in, and want to take over his territory. They have sent Bruno ( Ulli Lommel ) to keep an eye on things. So Bruno, Franz, and his girlfriend pal around together. One of the mob guys is Raoul (Howard Gaines), always shirtless, for some reason.  It's all very surreal... minimal script, long pauses, posing, slow movement. No real connection between many scenes. Written, and directed, and starring Rainer Fassbinder, one of his very early films. His last film, Querelle, is one of his better known works. His films usually have a dark, sinister side, with violence, or seedy locations. Sadly, Fassbinder died young at 37 of a drug overdose. Fassbinder fans will love it. It's ony one hour 28 minutes, but it feels longer with so little dialogue.

The Assassination of Trotsky, de Joseph Losey (1972)

Depois da morte de Lenin em Janeiro de 1924 e a ascensão de Joseph Stalin, Trotsky, aos poucos, foi perdendo suas posições no governo soviético. O Politburo acabou expulsando ele da União Soviética em Fevereiro de 1929, indo parar no México em 1940. Ele passou o resto da sua vida no exílio, escrevendo muito e se engajando em críticas abertas ao Stalinismo. Stalin envia um assassino para matá-lo, Frank Jackson, feito por Delon. Romy Schneider é a secretária de Trotsky e amante de Jackson.

Este filme não é dos melhores do grande diretor Joseph Losey, mas vale pela presença do trio, Richard Burton (que imprime seu carisma ao personagem), Alain Delon e Romy Schneider.

O diretor havia oferecido primeiramente o papel de Trotsky para Dirk Bogarde, com quem ele tinha feito cinco outros filmes. Losey admitiu que o script era ruim, mas disse a Borgard que seria revisado. Borgarde, mesmo assim, não aceitou o papel, o que chateou Losey, achando que Bogarde não confiava nele. Richard Burton, que tinha trabalhado com Losey em "O Homem que Veio de Longe" (1968) confiava em Losey e aceitou o papel, mesmo sabendo do script.

Julgando pelos seus diários particulares, Richard Burton sinceramente acreditara que o filme seria um grande sucesso, na mesma linha do seu recente filme de ação "O Desafio das Águias" (1968). Parece que apenas leu o roteiro depois que aceitou o papel e ter descoberto que quase todas as cenas aconteciam no pátio da causa de Trotsky. Seu diário registra que ele percebeu que os demais atores não falavam muito Inglês e ainda combinado com o script estático e pesado, acabaria prejudicando o filme. After having been forced to leave the Soviet Union 1929 Trotsky has ended up in Mexico 1940. He is still busy with politics, promoting socialism to the world. Stalin has sent out an assassin, Frank Jackson. Jackson befriends a young communist and gets an invitation to Trotsky's house.

Joseph Losey originally offered the part of Leon Trotsky to Dirk Bogarde, with whom he had made five other films. Losey admitted that the script was terrible, but told Bogarde that it would be revised. Bogarde turned the role down, embittering Losey, who felt that Bogarde didn't trust him. Richard Burton, who had worked with Losey on  "Boom" (1968) did trust Losey enough to take the part, even though he was shown the same script.

Judging by his private diaries, Richard Burton seems to have genuinely thought at first that the film had the potential to be a "blockbuster" on the scale of his recent action hit "Where Eagles Dare" (1968). He appears only to have read the script after accepting the part "and discovered that almost every scene I do takes place on 'the Patio of Trotsky's house'". His journal records his gradual realization that the limited English of other actors, combined with the static, dialogue-heavy script, would materially harm the film; the set representing Lev Trotskiy's house was stocked with genuine books and 1940s magazines, and Burton's greatest pleasure during filming seems to have been reading these in breaks from shooting.

Kamouraska (1973)

Quebec, the 1830s and 1840s. As she attends the bedside of Jérôme, her second husband, Élisabeth recalls her youth, her marriage to her first husband, Antoine, life in remote Kamouraska where he is seigneur, their love dissolving in his mental illness and cruelties, her falling in love with an American physician, Georges Nelson, and the aftermath of Antoine's violent death.

Genevieve Bujold é Elizabeth Rolland, que ao lado de seu segundo marido moribundo, relembra seu primeiro casamento com o Lord de Kamouraska e seu assassinato pelo amante dela, o exilado americano George Nelson.
