Finland was the only country during world war two to fight both for the Axis and then later against it, alongside the Soviet Union.

This films focus is opening stages of the war which sees the Finns fighting with the Axis. That said, this film looks only at the conflict between the Finns and the Soviets. It accurately displays the Finns role as defenders attacked by the Soviets and their defense against a much larger enemy force.

Kit Harington Joins Season 3 of ‘Industry’

Deadline has learned that Harington is joining season 3 of Industry, the series HBO is producing with the BBC by Bad Wolf. The Game of Thrones star will recur as as Henry Muck, the CEO and Founder of Lumi, an exciting green tech energy company that’s about to go public.

Production will begin this month in the UK on season 3, which will be comprised of eight episodes.

Industry gives an insider’s view of the blackbox of high finance following a group of young bankers as they forge their identities within the pressure cooker environment of international bank Pierpoint & Co’s London office.

In season three, as Pierpoint looks to the future and takes a big bet on ethical investing, the desk find themselves front and center in the splashy IPO of Lumi, a green tech energy company, in a story that runs all the way to the very top of finance, media and government.

Industry is created, written and executive produced by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay. The series is a Bad Wolf Production for HBO/BBC and is executive produced by Jane Tranter, Kate Crowther, and Ryan Rasmussen for Bad Wolf, and Rebecca Ferguson for BBC.

Robert De Niro To Star In Crime Drama Series ‘Bobby Meritorious’ In The Works At Paramount+

The Raging Bull and Taxi Driver star is to lead Bobby Meritorious, an original series that comes from Paramount Television Studios. Paramount made the commitment to develop the project after winning out a competitive situation.

It marks De Niro’s second TV project to emerge in a matter of weeks after conspiracy thriller Zero Day, from Eric Newman, landed a limited series order at Netflix.

The series is set amongst the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, which is a sovereign kingdom with seemingly unlimited power and scope. But now an informant in SDNY’s biggest case, Avery “The Sage” Accomando is poised to tear this storied institution apart. Only one man can stop him, a fabled ex-cop-turned prosecutor affectionately known as Bobby Meritorious, played by De Niro. The battle between these two giants is a fight for justice itself.

De Niro will also exec produce alongside his producing partner Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh, who works at the pair’s Tribeca Productions. Peter Gethers will also exec produce alongside Preet Bahara, who was the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York between 2009 and 2017.

Earlier this month, Netflix ordered Zero Day, which was De Niro’s first series regular television role. The series, from Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim and Michael S. Schmidt, is being directed by Leslie Linka Glatter and asks how do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control?

On the film side, upcoming pictures include Wise Guys for director Barry Levinson and Killers of the Flower Moon, which is his tenth collaboration with Martin Scorsese.

End of the Road (Aram Avakian, 1970)

This movie is starred by two of my favorite actors: Stacy Keach and Harris Yulin, besides The Voice, James Earl Jones.
It is an adaptation of John Barth's  bizarre novel detailing the story of a man (Keach) who goes into a catatonic state at a train station. He is sent to a strange mental hospital run by a weird man named Dr D (Jones). After he is considered to be 'cured' he takes a job as a college Professor and proceeds to have an affair with the wife of one of his colleagues.
 The film-making style is refreshingly audacious in a way that is rarely seen anymore. Everything is just thrown out there no matter how outrageous with little or no regard to mainstream acceptance. The kinetic imagery and music has a certain hypnotic effect that keeps you connected to it even if you don't understand what is going on.

The Year I Became A Liar (Ricardo Trogi, 2009)

Thirty-seven-year-old Ricardo Trogi narrates the story of a specific time from his childhood about which he still obsesses, in a time that changed his childhood. The year was 1981, when he, then eleven years old, was just starting grade 6. He was obsessed with material possessions, and as he felt his working class parents didn't buy those things for him he wanted so dearly, his most prized possession was the Consumers Distributing catalog from which he made his list of items he wanted, long at the top of the list a $400 calculator watch. These possessions he felt would impress the world. He largely dismissed his waitress mother Claudette, but he admired his father Benito. Although he at the time didn't know what his father did for a living, Ricardo believed he was smart enough to be a lawyer if he had the means to go to college, that belief largely by the stories Benito told of growing up during WWII in Italy. In 1981, the family, which included his adolescent sister Nadia, moved to the suburbs of Quebec City, into a house and neighborhood of a higher class than before. As such, Ricardo felt even more pressure to have those material possessions to keep up with his new classmates.

‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’: Reports Of HBO Show’s Demise Have Been “Greatly Exaggerated,” Says EP Jeff Schaffer

Don’t go sending Curb Your Enthusiasm to an early grave just yet.

After producer Jon Hayman suggested last week that the HBO series might be coming to an end with its upcoming 12th season, executive producer Jeff Schaffer told Deadline that isn’t necessarily the case.

“Reports of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. We literally just finished shooting last week. So, yeah, we’re done,” he said, adding that the crew, including Larry David himself, ends each season with the expectation that the series may or may not continue.

“My first season was Season 5. And you know what the final episode of that season was called? ‘The End.’ Not ironically. That was 15 years ago. So every season is the last season. It’s been this way forever,” he continued. “Larry’s put all the ideas he likes into the season. He’s the only one who thinks he’s never gonna have another good idea. So, of course, he’s done for a while. But you know, usually he goes out and has spirited encounters with the westside of Los Angeles and then ideas come. So we’re in the same spot we’re always in. It’s just business as usual.”

So, in short, the door isn’t closed? “There’s not even a door,” Schaffer insisted.

As for what to expect from Season 12, Schaffer didn’t reveal many details other than the latest installment is “very, very fun.”

“It was some of the hardest I’ve ever laughed on set,” he said. Since production has wrapped, Schaffer and the rest of the team have transitioned to editing.

He continued, “We write it three times, because we write the outline, we write it on set, and we’re writing in the edit room now. It’s great. It’s gonna be a great season. I’m really excited about it. And I think people are really, really gonna like it.”

HBO hasn’t commented on whether or not the series might be ending. Last August, the premium network ordered a 12th season of the show that stars the Seinfeld co-creator as an over-the-top version of himself. The series also stars Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, J.B. Smoove, Cheryl Hines, Richard Lewis, Vince Vaughn, and Ted Danson.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is executive produced by David, Schaffer and Jeff Garlin with Laura Streicher and Jennifer Corey as co-executive producers.

Ryuichi Sakamoto Dies: Oscar-Winning Composer Was 71

Japanese composer and producer Ryuichi Sakamoto, a pioneer in electronic music and winner of an Oscar, Grammy and BAFTA awards, has died at 71. He died of cancer on March 28, the BBC reported, attributing the confirmation to his office.

“While undergoing treatment for cancer discovered in June 2020, Sakamoto continued to create works in his home studio whenever his health would allow,” Sakamoto’s management, Commmons, wrote in its statement. “He lived with music until the very end. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to his fans and all those who have supported his activities, as well as the medical professionals in Japan and the U.S. who did everything in their power to cure him. In accordance with Sakamoto’s strong wishes, the funeral service was held among his close family members.”

Sakamoto was known for his work as a solo artist and as a member of the Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) group.

His 1987 film score for The Last Emperor won him an Oscar, a Grammy and a Golden Globe. He also acted in the movie, which detailed the life of Puyi, the last emperor of China. He also starred in the 1983 film Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence, with David Bowie.

In 1978, Sakamoto joined with Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi to form Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO). The avant-garde keyboardists were an influence on techno-pop and later, hip-hop.

Sakamoto began studying composition at age 10, inspired by the Beatles and Debussy.

“Asian music heavily influenced Debussy, and Debussy heavily influenced me. So the music goes around the world and comes full circle,” he said in 2010.

In 1992, Sakamoto was the composer for the opening ceremony music for the Barcelona Olympics.

His resume includes scores for Oliver Stone’s ABC miniseries Wild Palms (1993) and Brian de Palma’s Snake Eyes (1998). He also had his own hit on the Japanese pop charts in 1999 with “Energy Flow,” which had been used in a TV commercial touting an energy drink. It became the first instrumental song to reach No. 1 in Japan.

In accordance with Sakamoto’s wishes, a funeral service was held with only his close family members, his management team said.

Survivors include daughter Miu Sakamoto, a successful pop singer in Japan.

A look at the life of renegade yakuza, Rikio Ishikawa, particularly the years from 1946 to 1950 when his violent antics get him in trouble with his own clan, Kawada, and then with the clan of his protector, Kozaburo Imai. The late Kninji Fukasaku is arguably most widely known for the more recent "Battle Royale" (2000), but the films that have earned him the deserved status as a true master of uncompromising cinema are arguably his gritty Yakuza films from the 70s. Such as the famous "Battles Without Honor And Humanity" films or this disturbing gem called "Jingi No Hakaba" aka. "Graveyard of Honor" (1975)

A Double Shot from Mike Leigh´s episodes of Play For Today

Who is Who (1979) Episode 15 of Season 9 of BBC Play for Today, a TV Show that aired from 1970 to 1984, which won 11 BAFTA Awards.

Slice-of-life look at class divisions among employees of a brokerage house. Alan, with his portrait of the Queen and love of the peerage; his wife April, who raises cats; youthful and pretentious friends Nigel, Giles, and Anthony, who gather for a wine-soaked dinner party with the chatty and risque Samantha and the mousy Caroline; the plummy Lord and Lady Crouchurst, in a spot of bother needing the help of Francis, a senior partner, to assist with the family's cash flow. Alan comes home from work to find Mr. Shakespeare doing a photo shoot of one of April's cats and a wealthy stranger, Miss Hunt, waiting to purchase one. His instincts for sycophantic palaver kick in.

Episode 19, Season 12 from the BBC TV Show PLAY FOR TODAY"

Three postal workers and their dysfunctional families interact over cups of tea and Sunday dinner. Stan, Gordon, and Harold sort mail. While the clueless Harold's at work, Stan nips round for loveless sex with Harold's near-sighted, romance-starved wife, June. When Gordon's out, Hazel invites Stan in for tea, randy talk, and to show off her newly-thin figure. Motor-mouthed, intrusive social workers want Stan to spend time with his teenage daughter, Tina, "fostered out" since Stan's divorce. One Sunday, Hazel invites Stan and Tina to dinner; Gordon and Hazel argue; it's on to Stan's, where June shows up wanting a private talk. She's miserable. Tina mutely looks on.

Operation Thunderbolt (Mivtsa Yonatan), 1977

Mivtza Yonatan (or as it is better known around the world, Entebbe Operation and Operation Thunderbolt), in which the Israeli army managed to take over the Entebbe airport in Uganda, to free all hostages of the kidnapped Air France plane and to bring (almost) everybody home in one piece, is a story told a million times over, was made into a very bad Hollywood action movie and was used as the basis for countless B-movies. This version, however, is unique. To begin with, many of the key characters of the operation (Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin and Yigal Alon, all of whom played key rolls in the decision making process of this operation) were acting as themselves. Secondly, the Israeli army actively participated in the making of the movie, thus making the level of realism higher than most other action movies ever made.
The film doesn´t have big stars like Peter Finch, Charles Bronson, Yaphet Kotto and Martin Balsam, among others in the TV version "Raid on Entebbe", made in 1976 but they tried to be more realistic and better final battle scenes. Good music score too.
Lieutenant Colonel Yonatan "Yonni" Netanyahu (Yehoram Gaon) was the older brother of Benjamin Netanyahu, the future Israeli Prime Minister.  He was the only Jewish soldier  killed in the action.
