In the countryside of the United States of America, Irma Applewood (Jessica Lange) and her husband

Roy Applewood (Tom Wilkinson) have been happily married for twenty-five years and they are model citizens in their community.

Roy brings Irma to meet Reverend Dale Muncie (Randall Arney), who is their pastor and friend, to tell that he is a woman trapped in a man's body and he will be submitted to a sex-change operation.

Now Roy has to face the deception of his wife and the intolerance of his colleagues, members of his church and his son Wayne (Joe Sikora). But Irma loves him and after the impact of the news, she understands and supports him with their teenage daughter Patty Ann (Hayden Panettiere) and Roy's boss Frank (Clancy Brown) that is their friend.

Tom Wilkinson chose not to do any research into the subject of transgenderism, as he felt that a mid-Western farmer wouldn't know anything about the subject either.

The John Deere tractor company refused to have anything to do with the film. This was not so much to do with the fact that the character of Roy is sexually conflicted; instead they took exception to a scene in which Roy gets roughed up at work. The company didn't want to be associated in any way with worker-related violence.

Tom Wilkinson had to endure regular close shaves with a barber to convey the impression that estrogen was working on his face. He also had to shave all the hair off his arms, legs and chest.

Filme "Denial" - Estreia em Setembro de 2016 - Negação ao Holocausto

Um filme, que pode trazer muita polêmica, deve estrear nos EUA em setembro de 2016. O título original é Denial, que no Brasil, poderá ser algo como Negando o Holocausto, ou algo mais criativo nesse aspecto.

Hillary Swank iria ser a protagonista, mas acabou desistindo e Rachel Weisz

Rachel Weisz e Deborah Lipstadt

entrou em seu lugar. Ela vai interpretar a escritora e historiadora Deborah Lipstadt. O filme é uma adaptação das batalhas jurídicas com o historiador inglês David Irving, que a processou (juntamente com a editora Penguin Books)  em 1996 depois que ela o rotulou como negador do holocausto judeu na 2ª Guerra Mundial em seu livro Negando o Holocausto: Um Assalto crescente contra a Verdade e a Memória. Não há edição brasileira desse livro. 

Quatro anos depois que o julgamento encerrou, Lipstadt publicou outro livro: A História em Julgamento: Meus dias no tribunal com um negador do Holocausto.

David Irving faz parte de uma série crescente de historiadores revisionistas, que vem disputando a veracidade dos 6 milhões de judeus mortos nos campos de concentração e da existência de câmaras de gás.

O filme é dirigido por Mick Jackson ( de Temple Grandin e O Guarda-Costas)

Outros atores: Tom Wilkinson faz o advogado de Deborah. Timothy Spall (nosso conhecido Peter Pettigrew de Harry Potter) faz David Irving.

Talvez a mudança de Hillary (que é americana como Deborah) para Rachel deve-se ao fato que esta última seja filha de pais judeus e Hillary não. Mas as duas são ótimas atrizes. Qualquer uma delas daria conta do recado.
