Martyrs of Love - Mučedníci lásky (1966)

Featuring pop stars Karel Gott and Marta Kubišová (who later became the director’s second wife) in lead roles, with cameos by the two girls from Chytilová’s Daisies and director Lindsay Anderson as traffic policeman, Martyrs of Love is the most perfect embodiment of Němec’s vision of a film world independent of reality. The nearly dialogue-free music comedy about three timid lovers, which combines aesthetics of 1920s silent slapstick cinema with romantic music of the 1960s, cemented the director’s reputation as the kind of unrestrained nonconformist the Communist establishment considered the most dangerous to their ideology.

A movie from former Czechoslovakia

PLEASE DONATE TO THIS BLOG AND MY THREE CHANNELS ON YOUTUBE

My three YouTube channels are temporarily frozen because all of them have two strikes (unfair strikes to say the least). Three strikes and all goes to dust. With the movies and the subscribers. To avoid the fatal third, I freeze them.

They will be back by March. Until then, I will keep posting movies here without the benefit of saving/loading them on YouTube database, on the platform.

One more time I ask all of you to donate to 'my humble corporation' through Paypal.

Ballad of Orin - Hanare goze Orin - (1977)

Ballad of Orin follows the hardscrabble life of a wandering outcast goze (blind female musician) in early 20th-century Japan. Cinematographer Kazuo Miyagawa and director Masahiro Shinoda interviewed surviving goze of the time to capture “a sense of the ideal beauty that these blind women had inwardly visualized.

The film takes place during the first decades of the 20th century, following the story of Orin, blind from birth, from childhood on. The film is told largely from her perspective, from a woman's perspective, which is rare in film, especially Japanese films.

Now I decided to avoid post Japanese movies on my Revista Cine TV channels. They are usually removed ruthlessly by YouTube and a strike to the channel. Here on blog is safer.

Director: Masahiro Shinoda.

Writers: Keiji Hasebe (screenplay), Tsutomu Minakami (author-story), Masahiro Shinoda (screenplay).

Stars: Shima Iwashita, Yoshio Harada, Tomoko Naraoka, Kirin Kiki, Toshiyuki Nishida, Tôru Abe, Keiko Nakamura, Ako Tomizawa, Rie Yokoyama, Jun Hamamura, Takako Minekawa, Izumi Hara, Kaoru Kobayashi, Taiji Tonoyama, Mansaku Fuwa.

English Subtitled.
